Murrumbidgee Council Mayor Ruth McRae OAM said this exciting project will provide residents with modern, welcoming library services close to home.
“Community feedback informed us that residents wanted their own dedicated library space. We are very happy to see this come to fruition,” Cr McRae said.
“While mobile library visits have been well appreciated, a dedicated space will provide so much more opportunity to connect, learn and spend time together.
“The new library spaces will be housed within the existing council buildings, with grant funding supporting upgrades to create modern, accessible, multipurpose community spaces.”
This will be complemented by a contribution from the council toward the office renovations, including building works, design and project management.
As a member of Western Riverina Libraries, Murrumbidgee will continue offering a wide range of library services, with access to books and resources from across the region.
In addition to books, residents can enjoy storytime and children’s programs, book ordering and collection, home delivery, digital library access and help, and a welcoming community space.
The mobile library service will finish on June 30, 2026.

In Coleambally, the new library is on track to open when the mobile library visits conclude and will operate during council office hours.
Darlington Point’s permanent library space will be completed in the 2026-27 financial year.
In the meantime, outreach services will be available at the Murrumbidgee Shire Hall after the mobile library service ends.
This will be held for 5 hours every second Thursday, starting on July 16.
Additional services will be available, including storytime and children’s programs, book ordering and collection, home delivery and digital library help.
