“We’re the food bowl of Victoria and people here are going hungry, it’s just not really acceptable and Foodshare plays a big role in helping people out,” Ms Costa said.
Ms Costa was endorsed by the grassroots community group Voices for Goulburn Valley, which conducted a survey to identify the priorities that are now guiding Ms Costa’s campaign.
Ms Costa also supported funding an integrated cancer centre at Goulburn Valley Health alongside other improvements to regional healthcare.
“It needs to be brought up to scratch so that people in Strathmerton don’t have to travel to Melbourne to get healthcare for cancer treatment and cardiac treatment,” she said.
Ms Costa also spoke on water policy and the need for a healthy river system.
“What I would like to see is the agriculture sector and the environment not as two separate entities but as an integrated system,” she said.
Ms Costa’s full responses to The News’ questions will be posted in video format on our social media alongside the other candidates over the next two months.
The candidates will be presented with the same 30 questions to give voters the opportunity to directly compare the candidates on the issues that matter to them the most, including healthcare, cost of living and the roads crisis.
An invitation has been extended to all announced candidates for the Shepparton District, including One Nation’s Phillip Bryant, the Nationals’ Shane Sali and Labor’s Cayla Fin.
