Finley Public School P&C will host a High Tea fundraiser at the School of Arts Hall on Sunday, September 27, featuring special guest speaker and acclaimed author, Rosalie Ham. The doors will open at 2pm for a 2.30pm start.

Rosalie grew up in Jerilderie and is best known for her internationally successful novel The Dressmaker (now a trilogy), which was adapted into film starring Kate Winslet. She has also written several other novels, her most recent being Look After Your Feet.
An invitation is extended to everyone to enjoy a delightful afternoon of delicious food and entertainment while supporting the Finley Public School community.
Tickets are $50 each which includes a glass of champagne on arrival, catered High Tea and presentation by the guest speaker, and are available via the P&C Facebook page.

The Finley Regional Care Auxiliary recently held its annual general meeting, followed by the monthly meeting, with 14 members in attendance.
Members thanked Finley Regional Care CEO, Ben Levesque, for attending and chairing the AGM and for speaking about what is happening at Finley Regional Care.
During the past year, the auxiliary continued to support residents by providing entertainment and gifts at Easter, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Christmas.
The committee elected for the 2026-2027 year is as follows: President Sue Hand, vice president Julie Stava, secretary Bernadette Agosta, assistant secretary Robin Beasley, treasurer Maria McCaw, assistant treasurer Shirley Gray, publicity officers Maria McCaw and Julie Stava.
The auxiliary is holding its Father’s Day raffle, with tickets available for $2 each from the Finley Regional Care doctors’ surgery and nursing home and Finley Pharmacy. The raffle will be drawn at 1pm this Friday, September 4.
The auxiliary will also hold a street stall in Murray St, Finley this Friday, from 8.30am to 1pm.
Community members who would like to support the stall with donations of cakes or other saleable items would be greatly appreciated.
Save the date: The Finley Springtime Open Gardens will be held Sunday, November 8, from 9am to 4pm.
There will be morning tea, lunch, stalls and a raffle, making it a lovely day out to enjoy with family and friends while supporting the Finley Regional Care Auxiliary.
More information about the Open Gardens, ticket sales and where tickets can be purchased will be announced soon.
The auxiliary is a dedicated volunteer group that raises funds to support the residents of Finley Regional Care. Through raffles, street stalls and other special events, it helps purchase equipment, provide entertainment and other comforts to enhance the wellbeing of residents.
Meetings are held on the third Monday of most months at 2pm at Finley Regional Care, 26 Dawe Ave, Finley. There are no meetings in January or December.

The Finley Hospital Auxiliary annual general meeting was held recently, and attended by Pam Ellerman, the deputy state president and regional representative for Murray.
Helen Wastle retained her position as president, Helen Cooling is vice president, Madeleine Wark is secretary and Cheryl Bodycoat is treasurer.
Following official business, a delicious afternoon tea, supplied by the dedicated members was enjoyed.
The Finley Hospital Op Shop still has a great supply of clothing at reasonable prices and many other treasures, so whenever you have time to spare, call in and browse to your heart’s content.
The friendly volunteers are always happy to have a chat and give advice.

Members of Finley’s St Mary’s Catholic Church, including many Filipinos, gathered on Sunday morning for Holy Mass to celebrate the Feast of St Lorenzo Ruiz, the first Filipino saint and the country's protomartyr (first martyr).
He was canonised by Pope John Paul II in Rome on October 18, 1987.
An enjoyable morning tea/lunch, organised and prepared largely by the Filipino community, was enjoyed in the Parish Hall following Mass.

Finley Pioneer Railway Museum management committee would like to remind everyone the precinct is open for inspection every Saturday afternoon between 2pm and 4pm.
This is a great exhibition featuring 1890s railway memorabilia, artifacts, and local stories.
Finley was the first town chosen for a low-cost ‘Pioneer Railway’ in 1898, using American-style building methods to save money during an economic downturn.
The site recently underwent major restoration and reopened in May 2026. Guided tours by volunteers are available, but booking or calling ahead is recommended.
