This week, the Cutters play Katunga who, despite their winless start, have played finals footy for the last few years.
The Cutters’ head coach Tim McCormick said the game against the Redeyes was uncertain.
“It was a good win; a game that was not a certainty against Blighty, who the week prior kicked 18 goals and controlled a fair bit of the ball.
“We started well, which was our focus. We played the first quarter strongly, better than the first game where they got the jump on us, and we brought the pressure from the start.
“We kept Blighty goalless in the first half, which really set the game up for us.”
The coach was pleased with the performance of many in the playing side.
“Aron Burns kicked eight and there were six other individual goal kickers, which was a good spread.
“Our midfield played really well. Guys like Luka and Jacob Simpson and Corey Farrell all played well, so we can take a bit of confidence from that.”
As for round four tomorrow, McCormick said Katunga will be a challenge with their ladder position deceiving this early in the season.
“Katunga have played the two grand final sides from last year in Waaia and Strathmerton, so we’re not going to get ahead of ourselves as they’re a strong test.”
McCormick said there would be a change in the line-up this week.
“We have a bye coming up (in round five), and then Yarroweyah after the break.
“We also copped a couple of injuries from the weekend, with James Mackenzie out with a foot fracture and Harrison Chanter with a cheekbone eye socket fracture due to a clash with a Blighty player.
“It means there are some forced changes to the line-up ahead of the bye.“
