A School Travel Plan looks at how students travel to and from school, identifying practical ways to make walking, riding and driving to school safer and easier for everyone.
The Cobram School community consultation follows the success of strong community input from Yarrawonga, Tungamah, Katunga and Nathalia, helping shape improvements to safety and access around those schools.
Moira Shire Council chair administrator Dr Graeme Emonson said road safety remained a top priority for the region, particularly given the size and diversity of the road network.
“Moira Shire covers more than 4000 square kilometres, with a road network that carries everything from farm machinery and freight vehicles to school buses, cars, cyclists and pedestrians,” he said.
“With such a vast and varied network, and so many different modes of transport sharing the same roads, it’s vital we plan carefully for the safety of our most vulnerable road users.
“Making sure students have safe, well-considered ways to travel to and from home and school is one of the most important things we can do for our community.
“School Travel Plans give families, schools and council the chance to work together and get this right.”
Cobram is part of the second group of schools to develop School Travel Plans and council wants to hear from students, parents, carers, teachers, and residents about their experiences travelling to and from local schools.

Feedback for the Cobram School communities closes on Wednesday, September 23.
More school districts across the shire will have the opportunity to take part in this process over the coming months as the program continues to roll out.
