Student satisfaction at the school is at an all-time high and a multi-million dollar build at the school will provide a launching pad for the college into the future.
The nomination is on the back of a student survey that returned a 90 per cent-plus satisfaction response to the college’s operation.
Due to COVID-19 complications, along with the significant travel required, the college will not be represented at the awards ceremony.
It has not, however, dampened the enthusiasm for the event, as the college recognises the work of its staff in being nominated for the elite education gong.
Results of the ‘Attitudes to School Survey’ conducted by the college were described as “through the roof’’ by administrators.
A multi-million dollar redevelopment at the college is under way to develop a new administration building, which will include a wellbeing centre.
The Victorian School Building Authority project is being designed by Melbourne-based education architect specialists Law Architects and the build is being completed by Bendigo’s Searle Brothers.
A new community hub, which has an information technology and library component, and a new canteen are also part of plans for the college’s expansion.
Former principal Paul Tozer wrote the submission before accepting a role with the education department at regional level.
Todd Woodfine is in the acting principal’s role, with Louise Mellington leading the secondary school and Billy Barnes principal of the primary section of the Prep to Year 12 facility.
Kyabram P-12 College’s VCE results have continued to climb in recent years and the college is considered among the rising stars of the Victorian education network after its success at the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning awards.
The development of the wellbeing centre will include the availability of a full-time youth worker and social worker to the college community.
The annual awards are conducted by The Educator, Australia’s independent magazine and website for senior education management professionals.
Nominations for the awards opened in February and last month the finalists were announced for the black-tie gala dinner at Sydney’s Darling Harbour.
Former Rogue Traders lead singer and X Factor judge Natalie Bassingthwaighte will host the awards, which have 11 school categories, 10 awards for principals and teachers, and with five curriculum awards.
West Australia’s Great Southern Grammar, Rockhampton Grammar School, Victory Lutheran College at Wodonga, Singleton’s Australian Christian College, Balcombe Grammar School, Queensland’s Discovery Christian College and Fraser Coast Anglican College are the other finalists in the regional school category.
In 2021 the award was won by James Fallon High School in Albury, while Kangaroo Island Community Education earned a three-peat of gongs from 2018 to 2020.
