‘‘The whole idea of the auction as a fundraiser is for the show to provide as much free entertainment for children as we can,’’ Mr Close said.
‘‘We had 320 cages registered for the auction, which included chooks, budgies, turkeys, ducks and even guinea pigs.
‘‘The top selling pen went for about $100.
‘‘But the best thing about the auction weekend was seeing all the children running around and having some fun.
‘‘It was worth the effort to see all the families enjoying themselves.’’
Mr Close thanked auctioneers Nathan Everingham from Nathan Everingham and Co and James Kennedy from Elders for their work on the day, and all the volunteers, buyers and sellers.
The Finley Show is held the first Sunday of September, which is also Father’s Day.
Mr Close said the committee has been meeting monthly to plan for the next event, which he says should be well supported after two COVID-impacted years.
‘‘I think it could be bigger than Texas after being locked up for so long.
‘‘All being well, we should be able to put on a proper show this year.’’
