Cats outmuscled by Eagles

It was a very tough day on court for Finley’s A grade, going down by 52 goals.

Despite the big loss the Cats showed great fight, but they couldn’t match the physicality and the relentless defensive pressure of Echuca United Eagles.

Holly Robinson had a brilliant game in WA while Ruby Russell and Kate Archer did a great job in the goal circle under enormous pressure from tall and physical defenders while Savannah Wilson and Wynta Brain battled hard in defence for the Cats.

Final score, Echuca United 73 to Finley 21.

B grade: Echuca United 53 def. Finley 30

The B grade Cats also fell short in a physical game.

Elyse Price did a great job running the centre and in WD, Milly Op’t Hoog stood up and did a great job in the midcourt, feeding into Helene Steward and Andrea Sneddon who had a great game goals.

C grade: Echuca United 72 def. Finley 20.

It was another big loss for the Cats but they fought it out to the end.

The scoreline doesn’t reflect the competitiveness of the game.

Abbey Breust had a great game in WD as did Jess Congram in goals.

Kylie Edwards worked tirelessly in GD.

Sasha Wood received the Kelly’s Grains award for her relentless defence while Vanessa Greeves played a great game to also earn an award.

Under 17s: Echuca United 53 def. Finley 17.

Finley’s first quarter wasn’t a great start but the team made a turn around in the second half with Isabella Kelly, Piper Doyle and Elle Rochford in defence. They worked tirelessly and did what they were asked to do.

There were many intercepts and this enabled the Cats’ attackers, Shianne and Niamh Mason, to bring the ball down to their shooters and feed the ball into Sarah Orro and Micaelie Price.

In the second half Charlie Mason combined well with Bella and Lucy-Jane Burdon in defence to not let the opposition have it easy.

U15s: Echuca United 46 def. Finley 19.

The Cats went down against a stronger Echuca side but put up a good fight against the third placed team.

Amarlee Price was great in goal attack creating plenty of options and always being there as a back up.

Shannae Thompson took on board a new position that she had never played before taking direction and feedback from her team mates very well.

U13s: Finley 35 def. Echuca United 31

The Under 13s were Finley’s shining light on Saturday defeating Echuca United in a nail biter.

The young Cats’ ability to capitalise on their opportunities was the deciding factor in the terrific match.

Jasmine Burke was relentless in the centre with numerous turnovers and Josie Coombs had an outstanding game in goals, with well timed leads and great accuracy with her shots.

U11s: It was another tough day on the court for the Kittens but to their credit they never game up.

Zahlia Lawler had a great last quarter in centre while Ruby Taylor was fearless in WD.

Lilly McNamara was tough in defence while Addison Clarke’s attacking and defensive play was outstanding.
