The Tech Savvy Seniors program is designed for older residents who want to feel more confident using their phone, tablet or computer.
No experience is needed, and participants can learn at their own pace in a relaxed, supportive environment.
Workshops have already started, and will continue into May.
Murrumbidgee Mayor Ruth McRae OAM said the workshops are a great opportunity for seniors to stay connected with family, friends and essential services safely.
“Digital literacy is increasingly important in everyday life, from keeping in touch with loved ones to accessing important information and services online,” she said.
“These workshops provide a welcoming space for seniors to learn new skills, ask questions and gain confidence with technology.”
Participants will be guided by friendly local library staff and will learn practical skills such as using email, navigating smartphones and tablets, online shopping, internet banking, video calling, using apps and staying safe online.
The workshops will be held across Jerilderie, Coleambally and Darlington Point, with each location offering a three-part series covering getting started and staying connected, cyber safety and scams and online shopping, banking and government services.
Participants can do any of the courses they choose, and can bring along their own device.
All sessions run from 1pm to 3pm on their scheduled days, and include afternoon tea.
The first session for each community is ‘Getting Started & Staying Connected’.
Jerilderie Library’s session was held last week.
The same session will also be delivered at the Colembally Community Hall on Tuesday, April 28, and the Darlington Point Council Chambers on Thursday, May 21.
Other sessions, by community, are as follows. Venues remain the same throughout the series.
Jerilderie: Session 2 - Cyber Safety & Scams, Thursday, April 16; Session 3 - Shopping, Banking & Government Services, Thursday, April 23.
Coleambally: Session 2 - Tuesday, May 5; Session 3 - Tuesday, May 12.
