Cash injection for Corowa clubs

Member for Albury Justin Clancy attended the Civic Bowls Club last Friday afternoon where he acknowledged the important role the club plays in “fostering a sense of community” while also praising the volunteers of the club.

"Corowa is very fortunate to have such a fantastic precinct, and these improvements will go a long way in ensuring that it remains a vital community asset for years to come,” Mr Clancy said.

Corowa Civic Bowls Club President Pam Tobias expressed her appreciation for the government's commitment to investing in much-needed infrastructure for the club.

“Replacing the outdoor tiling will not only improve the appearance of the club, but it will also ensure the safety of our members and guests,” she said.

“We are so grateful for the support of Justin Clancy and the state government. These upgrades will make a real difference for our club and our members.”

Meanwhile, the Corowa Pony Club will use the $186,268 in funding from the state government's Stronger Country Communities Fund to build an all-weather sand dressage arena.

Measuring 25x70m, the new arena will provide a safe and reliable space for the pony club members to practice and compete in dressage, as well as for the community to enjoy and use.

“We are thrilled to have received this funding from the state government,” Corowa Pony Club treasurer Nancy Naughtin said.

“With the new all-weather sand dressage arena, we will be able to practice dressage at our pony club rallies, which take place on the first and third Sunday of each month, and host competitions at our grounds. This is a huge step forward for our club and will greatly benefit our members, who have been working hard for the past four years to improve our grounds and facilities.”

With a membership of 50 members currently, and growing, the new arena will be beneficial for accommodating and training for all levels of members, from toddlers on Shetland ponies to elite show ponies and thoroughbred eventers. Ms Naughtin also highlighted that the new all-weather sand dressage arena will help to accommodate the growing number of members and their various abilities, allowing all members to practice and compete regardless of the weather.

“We are very excited to be able to move forward with this project and to see our members benefitting from it,” she said.

Cr Rowena Black also acknowledged the positive impact the funding will have for the members of the Corowa Civic Bowls Club and the Corowa Pony Club.

“It highlights the importance of council and government working together to identify the needs of the community,” she said.

“These upgrades will make a real difference for members and visitors to both clubs. We are grateful to the state government for recognising the importance of investing in our community facilities and supporting the hard work of our volunteers.”

The Stronger Country Communities Fund is part of the NSW Government’s $3.3 billion Regional Growth Fund, designed to support growing regional centres, activate local economies and improve services and community infrastructure in the regions.
