New limits

Speed limits on the Oaklands Rd to the east of Jerilderie and Conargo Rd to the town’s east have been changed as of yesterday. The 70km/h speed limit applying sections of each road has been removed.Existing 50km/h speed limits have been extended to cover the area, which has been prompted by increased residential development in both areas.Transport for NSW south west region director Lindsay Tanner said the reductions will make the area ‘‘safer for all road users’’.‘‘The existing 50 km/h speed zone on Oaklands Rd will be extended for a distance of 1km while the 50 km/h zone on Conargo Rd will be extended for a distance of 610 metres,” Mr Tanner said.‘‘Transport for New South Wales carried out a review of the speed zones at the entry points to Jerilderie following concerns from local residents and requests from Murrumbidgee Council.‘‘On Oaklands Rd, there are a number of driveways and school bus activity has increased as a result of residential development in the area.‘‘Residential development has also increased on Conargo Rd, leading to a need for a lower speed limit.‘‘This investigation showed extending the 50 km/h zones on Oaklands and Conargo Rds would ensure motorists are travelling at a safe speed through the busy areas with minimal impact to travel times.’’Signs are in place to advise motorists of the new speed limits, and will remain in place for three months.
