The new way to treat grain
For more than three generations, Action Steel has been designing and building farm sheds for cropping and livestock enterprises across Australia.

The family business, based in regional Victoria, has built its reputation on manufacturing sheds that perform, backed by a smooth process from first enquiry through to handover.
This season, Action Steel has expanded beyond the shed itself.
FumoFlow is a patent-pending grain shed and fumigation system with recirculation and ventilation built in.
It is the first system of its kind, and the Elmore Field Days will be one of the first opportunities to hear directly from the Action Steel team about how it works.
What is FumoFlow and how does it work?
FumoFlow is a grain shed with a built-in fumigation system, designed to give growers more control over every stage of the fumigation process.
Recirculation technology moves fumigant through the full grain mass from the point of introduction.
Once the fumigation period is complete, the system switches to ventilation mode, clearing the shed to safe re-entry levels faster than passive methods and without requiring staff to enter the shed to start the process.
Built on grower input
FumoFlow was developed over 18 months in consultation with grain growers and leading fumigation contractors.
The brief was straightforward: build a system that delivers consistent, proven fumigant distribution and safer, faster clearance, purpose-built into an Action Steel grain shed.
The patent-pending status reflects how genuinely new the approach is.
Trial results
In March 2026, Action Steel ran its first full-scale commercial phosphine fumigation trial using FumoFlow, on a shed storing 5420 tonnes of wheat.
Twelve independent monitoring probes were placed at surface and floor level across the full grain stack and monitored over 15 days.
Two concentrations are commonly referenced as targets for effective fumigation.
Five hundred and fifity ppm maintained for 7 days is the benchmark for addressing phosphine-resistant insect strains.
Two hundred ppm maintained for 10 days covers susceptible populations at all life stages.
FumoFlow met both, across every probe location.
Concentration peaked at an average of 1068 ppm within 49 hours of introduction.
Not one probe dropped below either threshold during the required exposure window, including those at floor level and at the furthest edges of the grain stack.
After fumigation, the shed reached safe re-entry levels in four days, with the ventilation cycle managed entirely from outside.
With tighter phosphine Workplace Exposure Limits coming on the horizon, that speed and control matters.
It is a long-term compliance advantage, not just an efficiency one.
