Not only did a record number of competitors enjoy a morning along the always pretty Tocumwal Foreshore, they also managed to raise more than $6500 for the Breast Cancer Network.
The 240 competitors had the option to either run 8km or 4km, or just enjoy a brisk 4km walk.
Organising committee member John Turnbull said it was an ‘‘excellent’’ morning as everyone embraced the cause.
‘‘It was a bit overcast but the sun broke through so it was pleasant day. Everyone enjoyed the morning, plenty of prizes were won,’’ he said.
‘‘There’s a lot of emotion surrounding the day. People do it for certain reasons, I was talking to a chap who has been doing it for a couple of years and he walks for his sister-in-law.
‘‘People have lost family or are survivors of breast cancer and that’s why they do it.
‘‘We also had a young girl who baked cupcakes and sold them, then donated the money. And another man turned up, donated some money and left, which is incredibly generous.
‘‘To raise $6500 is a really good effort for a small country town,’’ Mr Turnbull said.
It’s the second year in a row more than $6500 has been raised at the Mother’s Day Classic held in Tocumwal.
Although money from other Mother’s Day Classic’s held around the country is still being tallied up, already more than $1 million has been raised.
