Overtaking car rolls

By Southern Riverina News

Two people were transferred to the Goulburn Valley Hospital in Shepparton on Saturday after their car rolled and hit a tree.

Police say the driver, who they confirmed returned a negative blood alcohol reading, lost control of the car while trying to avoid a collision.

The driver was attempting to overtake a truck on the Newell Highway near the McPhersons Lane intersection at Jerilderie about 9.30am Saturday, and did not see an oncoming vehicle.

Too late to abandon taking over, the driver was forced to swerve off the side of the road to avoid a collision.

The car went down an embankment before rolling and hitting the tree.

Police said the driver and the passenger were lucky to survive the crash.

Lolly bandit

A Finley school’s canteen was broken into overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday last week.

Drinks, chips, ice-creams and lollies were stolen.

It’s unsure how the thieves gained entry into the canteen. Anyone with information is asked to contact Finley Police.
