Back to the Future star James Tolkan dies aged 94
James Tolkan, known for Back to the Future and Top Gun, has died aged 94 after a remarkable acting career spanning decades.
19°CBorn in South Australia in 1937. Passed away peacefully on 14 November 2025.
Beloved wife of Angas Mervyn Klose (dec.), married in 1949.
Loved mother of Elizabeth, Wendy, and Paul.
Cherished grandmother of Joel, Sarah, Jonathon, Peta, Ellen, Claudia, and Katherine.
Proud great-grandmother of Isaiah, Imogen, Luca, Beau and Olivia.
Barbara and Angus made their home in Woomera before moving to Darwin in 1977, where Barbara became a respected and valued member of the community. The family holds dear many memories of their life together, including their love of travelling and cruising the world.
Barbara worked for 18 years in the Medical Records Department at the Royal Darwin Hospital, known for her dedication and strong work ethic.
A passionate sportswoman, Barbara contributed widely to tennis, squash and softball, and was a leading figure in lawn bowls. Her roles included Vice President of Bowls Australia, Director on the Bowls Australia Board, President and Secretary of the Ladies Club of Darwin Bowls Club, NT State Selector, and manager of Australian representative teams nationally and internationally.
In 2000, Barbara was honoured with the Australian Sports Medal, presented by the Governor-General Sir William Deane, in recognition of her outstanding service to lawn bowls at national and international levels.
A private family cremation will take place.
