Australia's media, fashion and creative industries are mourning the loss of celebrated jewellery designer Jan Logan, who has died aged 86.

The much-loved designer, entrepreneur and mother of three passed away peacefully in Sydney, surrounded by her family. News of her death was confirmed via social media, prompting an outpouring of tributes from across Australia's entertainment, fashion and arts communities.

A tribute shared on the official Jan Logan Jewellery Instagram account marked her life as "1939-2026", honouring a woman whose vision and determination reshaped the Australian jewellery landscape.

Born in Narrabri, New South Wales, Logan grew up on a country farm, an upbringing that shaped her pragmatic outlook, resilience and creative spirit. Her rural roots instilled independence and determination, qualities that would later underpin her success as both a designer and businesswoman.

Before entering the world of fashion, Logan raised her family and built a life well outside traditional creative circles. It was only later, at the age of 50, that she launched her jewellery business - a bold move that would see her become one of Australia's most respected designers and an inspiration to women across generations.

Founded in 1989, Jan Logan Jewellery quickly developed a loyal following, recognised for its refined craftsmanship and distinctive designs that blended classic elegance with a contemporary edge. Her pieces were created to be worn, treasured and passed on, reflecting her belief that jewellery should carry meaning and longevity.

Logan's designs soon appeared on red carpets and stages around the world. Her jewellery was worn by leading figures from film, music and television, helping elevate Australian design on the international stage while remaining unmistakably grounded in local craftsmanship.

Despite her growing profile, Logan remained deeply committed to supporting Australia's creative industries. She was a long-time advocate for local film and television and a strong supporter of Australian storytelling, using her platform to champion homegrown talent.

Over time, her brand expanded to boutique stores in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, becoming one of the country's most recognisable jewellery labels. Throughout its growth, Logan remained closely involved in the business, known for her attention to detail, high standards and personal warmth.

Following news of her passing, tributes flooded social media from admirers, colleagues and friends, many describing her as generous, elegant and quietly influential.

She was remembered not only for her creative achievements, but for her mentorship, her encouragement of women, and her belief that success could be achieved at any stage of life.

While Australia mourns the loss of a visionary designer and beloved matriarch, Jan Logan's legacy endures through her timeless creations, her lasting contribution to Australian fashion, and the countless people she inspired through her courage and creativity.

She is survived by her children and family, and will be remembered as a trailblazer whose influence will continue to shine for generations to come.
