The Redeyes managed one goal for the entire game, while Waaia kicked away to a final score of 30.32 (212).
The club was unable to provide a full report at the time of going to print yesterday.
The reserves came up against an equally strong Waaia outfit.
The Meyland brothers were hard to stop as Waaia controlled the middle, but the Blighty backline held up well with Paul Walters, George Fulton and Kev Kerr performing.
Better players were Bailey Smith, Paul Walters, Kev Kerr and Chris Hovenden.
Final score: Waaia 30.13 (193) def Blighty 0.1 (1).
The fourths headed over to Waaia needing to win this game to have a slight chance of playing finals.
It was one of those games where Blighty had to leave everything on the field.
The first quarter saw Blighty two goals behind, and in the second the Redeyes responded and applied a bit more pressure.
We started to win a bit more contested ball, and in the third the young Redeyes really knuckled down.
The midfield group started to get first use of the ball, which saw them transition the ball into our forward 50 a lot easier.
The change in tactic saw Blighty head into the final break with a two point lead.
The Bombers made Blighty work for it in the final stanza.
The backline held up strong and repelled countless entries.
With only a couple of minutes left on the clock, the young red eyes busted their backsides and nailed two goals in the dying minutes.
It saw the side come away with an 11 point win.
Unfortunately the lead was not enough to earn the percentages Blighty needed to make finals.
The way this young group responded to the pressure when they were under the pump just shows how much they have grown as a group through the year.
“I have really enjoyed coaching these kids. They have taught me a hell of a lot and I could not be any prouder of them,” coach Tim Brown said.
“Better players for the day included William Frost, who had a tagging role on a very good opponent.
“I thought he won the battle of the day, coming away with a fair few positions of his own.
“Regan Mcdonald, the enforcer, was also good coming out of fullback and just continued to dominate with his run and carry out of the backline.
“Ash Hines continuously had the ball on a string and seemed to be in every contest, giving us first use of the ball.
“Jack Culton played probably one of his better games of the year, dominating in the forward line and kicking three brilliant goals.
“Mitchell Grimwood had another really solid game playing a few different roles and executing them brilliantly. He is one of those kids that can just swing around the ground everywhere.
“Rounding out the best was Xander Strong, who was just too quick for anyone to catch. When he got a chance, he made his opponent pay for it with plenty of goal assists”
Final score: Blighty 7.4 (46) def 5.5 (35).
In the final game of the year, the fifths turned it on for all the Blighty supporters.
They played for each other.
The hand balls in the last quarter were fantastic, and players shared the ball with their teammates.
Thanks to all the parents who made the effort to get these kids to training and Saturday games. Great effort.
