The Finley netballers had a tough game on their hands on Saturday.
With the weather conditions turning south at the beginning of the game, the young side struggled to keep up with the pace of the sophisticated Moama A-grade.
The Finley side made changes each quarter but could not find a combination that clicked to narrow the lead the Moama side were creating.
Unfortunately, the team was not up to scratch on the away turf, but have many things to implement into training to build their strength in the coming weeks.
Awards: Finley Country Club (BOC) - Sarah Taylor; Essential Hair & Beauty - Cassidy Reynolds.
C-grade: Moama 74 def Finley 18.
It was a tough game for Finley C-grade against the undefeated Moama. Unfortunately they were just too good for us to keep up with.
We learned a lot and now we know where we can improve so we can match this top team.
The girls gave it their best effort and it was great to have Amarlee Price join us.
She is a great addition to our team and did a great job in GA for four quarters.
Amarlee was best on for Finley.
The other award was given to Meg Marshall who is a great asset to our mid court every week and adapted well when moved into different positions.
C-reserve: Moama 64 def Finley 22.
A strong start gave us some confidence, but we were in for a tough day with ladder leaders Moama.
Long passes with accuracy into their GS had our defence under constant pressure and their defence was making our shooters work for every possession and goals.
Moama enacted their game plan perfectly to prove they will be the team to beat in this years premiership race.
Finley RSC award went to Sasha Wood for her tight defence and rebounding with limited opportunities.
Elyse Price worked hard all game in centre and then moved seamlessly into GA earning her the Finley Community Gym Award.
Under-17s: Moama 66 def Finley 30.
The Finley under-17s side had a strong game against the tough Moama side.
Considering the growing lead Moama created each quarter, the Finley side stayed consistent and strong.
Moama had a few key players which made it hard for Finley to shut down their goals.
Finley held their heads high and had great energy throughout the whole game.
Unfortunately Moama were too strong and polished, but a great game overall.
Awards: Purtill/Bauer Best on Court - Charlotte Rafferty; Finley Bakery award - Mikayla Simpson.
Under-15s: Finley 21 lt Moama 29.
Our girls faced another tough and competitive match.
They all worked extremely well together on the court and their positive attitudes shone though.
They finished the first quarter even, and the midcourt was excellent with the oppositions very strong defence.
Our defensive pressure was also great to watch and going into half-time they were up by a goal.
Relentless defensive pressure saw the girls lose their lead in the third and in the fourth Moama extended their lead to take the win.
The girls held their heads high and should be very proud of the game they played as they really came together today and were a pleasure to watch.
Awards: RSC - Olivia Thompson for her effort in the midcourt; Finley Bakery award - Lillian Baker for her defensive game; Thompson star award - Milena Sneddon for her determination and effort in the midcourt.
Under-13s: Moama 39 def Finley 9.
We knew it would be a tough game and that it was.
We were outclassed by a very well drilled and skilled Moama side.
To our girls’ credit, they never gave up with evidence of improved defensive pressure all over the court.
Awards: RSC - Teliah Pyle; Finley Bakery - Maddy Price for implementing defending drills and skills taught at training.
Under- 11s: Not scored.
The under-11s girls played a great game this week against a tough Moama side.
There were some great passages of play displayed in the attacking end and bringing the ball down the court.
The team work and defensive pressure resulted in a few amazing turnovers.
The girls keep improving each week which is wonderful to see.
Awards: Finley Bakery - Akira Burton; FFNC Canteen - Alison Orwin; Vicki Smith awards - Chelsea Kennedy and Rori Dean.
