As the 2025 Kyabram District League football season wears on, its becoming more and more apparent that Rushworth may be a threat for the flag after all, with another dominant display in round nine over Girgarre.
Hosting the Tigers at Girgarre Recreation Reserve, the Kangaroos only had one shining moment in the first quarter, with a lovely snap from Billy Barnes, giving his side their only goal for the half.
Meanwhile, it was complete carnage down the other end.
Rushworth continually kept possession out of centre bounce with Liam Francis feeding his forward line all day, with 8.5 for the visitors in the first quarter alone.
It was much of the same in the second period with the Tigers continuing to dominate possession, kicking a further 4.1 while holding Girgarre to no further score, the disparity, a staggering 72 points by the major break.
The Roos were finally able to generate some offence in the third term (2.1), while Rushworth slowed its roll with the goals, settling for seven minors.
The two sides slugged it out down the stretch, with each side slotting just one goal, with the Roos unable to convert an extra five chances for maximum return.
The Tigers’ early work in the match paid major dividends, setting the table for a 15.15 (105) to 4.6 (30) win on the road.
Jackson McRae was awarded best-on-ground honours for his work in the ruck for Rushworth, with Francis’ efforts in the midfield also acknowledged.
On the flip side, Barnes was a cut above the rest for Girgarre, kicking all but one of his team’s goals.
Both sides will face decent competition in round 11, with Rushworth hosting Stanhope in the battle of big cats, while Girgarre will travel to Avenel Recreation Reserve to take on the Swans.
