Should Echuca defeat Rochester, the Murray Bombers will move on to battle Mansfield in the preliminary final, after the Eagles were blown off the park by the quality of Kyabram.
Moama will hope to book a meeting with Mulwala in the prelim, but must first get past Cobram in this afternoon’s elimination clash.
Congupna looms large in the grand final and is a heavy favourite to go back-to-back.
Mulwala is a more immediate problem for Tongala’s A-grade side, and the Blues will hope to make their way past the Lions and on to a battle with Nathalia, which went down to defending champion Rumbalara on Saturday.
There was plenty to get excited for in the Murray lower grades, after a host of local sides punched grand final tickets at Echuca South Recreation Reserve on Saturday.
Tongala in B, C, and C-Reserve and Moama in 17, 15, and 13-and-under all qualified for the grand final and the opportunity to defend their premierships.
The two clubs, and Echuca United, also have several hopes still alive and set for preliminary finals next week.
Moama has hopes remaining in the reserves, under-17 and under-14 football divisions.
In the GVL, Echuca’s 17-and-under was eliminated, while the 15-and-under squad also suffered defeat but has another chance at grand final qualification.
The Murray Bombers’ five-time defending champion thirds side will need to stage an almighty turnaround to claim six in a row in next Saturday’s preliminary final as it went down heavily to favourites Shepparton Bears.
