Berrigan
Mary Curtin winner of the Bernard Curtin OAM Open B-grade singles championship defeating a gallant Vidura ‘panda’ Gunaratne.
It was third time lucky for Mary Curtin on Saturday as she won the Bernard Curtin OAM Open B-Grade singles championship at Berrigan Community Bowls Club.
Curtin had made the final twice before in the event named in honour of her late husband, but had fallen at the final hurdle.
This time, Curtin held on to defeat a gallant Vidura ‘Panda’ Gunaratne 21-17.
Earlier in the week Gunaratne defeated Gayle Reynoldson 21-15 in the semi-final.
The Bernard Curtin trophy was only one of the two events won by Curtin this week.
Last Monday, she won the Berry Cobb Brooch by defeating Gayle Reynoldson in a nailbiter, 21-19.
A much improved Reynoldson pushed Curtin all the way but Curtin's experience saw her home in the end.
The Curlews have two representatives in the Murray team to play Goulburn Valley in the Sutcliffe-Rowlands challenge in April.
Paul Glanvill retains his spot from last season while Rick Bradbury's performance in the State Singles was recognised with a call-up.
Zoran Colovic was the club's sole entry in the Victorian Open played in Gippsland last week.
Colovic and his partner made the knockout stages of the Mixed Pairs but were defeated by a quality pairing in the final 64.
Entries are now open for the Garry McLennan Open Triples tournament on April 22.
