The tournament wasn’t without early adversity.
After a tough loss on Saturday morning, the Gators coaching staff made key tactical adjustments, reshaping the team’s structure and trialling new playing combinations.
The changes revitalised the group, who responded with composure and confidence as they powered through the remainder of the tournament.
Head coach Tony Long praised the team’s resilience.
“That Saturday loss was tough, but it became a turning point,” he said.
“We tweaked our approach and the girls executed the plan perfectly. Every single player bought into the team-first mindset, and it showed.”
In the grand final, the Gators delivered their most complete performance of the weekend, dominating both ends of the court to eventually emerge 30-29 victors over Swan Hill Flyers.
Their defensive pressure and unselfish ball movement proved too much for their opponents, as Shepparton controlled the game from start to finish.
Adding to the celebrations, rising star Eloise Hudgson was awarded grand final MVP, recognising her standout contribution in the championship decider.
Hudgson was a force on both ends, delivering crucial points in transition, multiple key rebounds, and leading with energy and composure under pressure.
Shepparton Gators' Eloise Hudgson was bestowed the grand final MVP award.
“Eloise played with incredible maturity,” Long said.
“She lifted the team when we needed it and deserved every bit of that MVP recognition and helps when your team mates are right behind you.”
This was a tremendous victory with both the opposing teams, Swan Hill and Mildura, sitting in the top ten rankings for the 2026 Junior Country Championships.
“This is a huge milestone for our girls’ program,” Long said.
“To finally take that grand final trophy home — and see our girls receive recognition at this level — is a proud moment for everyone involved in the Gators family.”
With the victory in Swan Hill and momentum building towards the 2026 Junior Country Championships, the future is bright for the Gators’ talented young squad.
