The only other undefeated side before last Saturday, North Albury, went down to Yarrawonga 39-53.
Last Saturday, the Roos headed down the highway to take on Wangaratta Rovers, winning by 21.
The young Roos’ Under 15s took out a nail-biter to win by two goals.
This long weekend (cheers to the King), the Roos are at home against North Albury.
A Grade
Roos 61 defeated Rovers 40
A few down Saturday but luckily there are some legend B Graders who debuted and filled in! Thanks to Torz, Soph, Court and Yadê for lending themselves to a jog around in A Grade.
It wasn’t the crispest performance, but overall, a dominant effort against Rovers.
Leapin’ Larry (Em Laracy) got the players’ player for a beaut day in defence. She guarded the post well and communicated consistently all game.
Coach’s Awards went to the Phantom (Indi Frauenfelder), who decided to show up for a game this week.
Her dream finally came true with a stint in WA (extended by a mid-game injury… Steve is ok!). She thrived and played the role well.
Ladies Committee and Opposition MVP went to Lou Madden (52 goals), bringing her season’s tally to …- arguably Corowa’s own Grace Nweke. Big test this week against North Albury at home on the long weekend.
B Grade
Roos 38 defeated by Rovers 47
B Grade had a rough day in the office this week with a nine-goal loss to the Rovers, who made the Roos pay for too many minor errors across the court. With five players filling in other grades prior, it can safely be said the mental fatigue kicked in and didn’t do any favours.
There were some smooth passages of play that showed finesse and precision, but the Roos didn’t string four quarters together. It has ignited a little fire in the bellies, and the girls will hit the training arena to reconnect and recentre, which will set up for a fierce and united comeback next week, taking on a competitive North Albury.
Lauren McInnes (Club 1) – who played in the midcourt against her old club. She wrangled the nerves to perform in passages of both Wing Defence and Centre throughout the game, applying pressure in the defence end and battling for circle edge in attack.
Remy Longmire (Thrive Wellness) – who maintained a constant positive voice to pick up the pieces and hold the crew together when we were lacking connection. Her presence on court was noticed, and she brought high pressure to the Rovers attack end with her persistence in dictating where she allowed her attacker to set up.
Kiara Corkett (Ladies Committee & MVP) – worked tirelessly all day, being the key driver in transitioning the ball from defence to attack, before putting up 14 of the 38 goals. With Lisa often double-teamed, Kiara showed Rovers she was just as big of a threat in the ring, becoming the dominant shooter and only missing four goals for the day.
C Grade
Roos 36 defeated by Rovers 51
Before the game started, the Roos had players out requiring players from other grades to step up to fill in.
To the girls credit, they had a strong first quarter and were leading at the first break.
The second and third quarters saw a tight contest with the ball being turned over by both teams which resulted in Rovers leading only by three goals. Fatigue set in and the Rovers ran away in the last quarter.
Thanks to Audrey, Sommers, Alex and Bella for helping out the girls this week.
Nellie Linden (Club 1) – great defensive pressure and drives down the court.
Ava Phibbs (Thrive Wellness) – another solid game in Centre with exciting passages of play to bring the ball down the court.
Alex Gniel (Ladies Committee) – started off in defence and then moved to shooter – great diversity to move into different positions.
Sophie Kennedy (MVP) – well deserving. Also a strong presence in the ring with her shooting and rebounding ability.
17 and Under
Roos 46 defeated by Rovers 76
A tough day on the court for the 17s. There were patches of play when the ball flowed beautifully into the goal circle otherwise the Rovers girls were too strong and took the four points.
Sienna Sampson (Docs) – played a strong attacking game in WA with strong drives and feeding the goalers well.
Ranhi Dickins (Sportspower) – another solid game in Centre displaying her leadership on the court and got the chance to have a stint in WD.
Grace Milthorpe (Ladies Committee) – had a great game in the ring with a goaling percentage of 87%.
15 and Under
Roos 47 defeated Rovers 45
The Under 15s had a great game, picking up their second win of the season. All the girls played their roles and worked together as a team. It was a great team effort and a well-earned win for the girls.
Isabel Bruce (Origin Clothing) – was solid through the middle, helping move the ball down the court.
Millie Eales (The Dress Hire & MVP) – was solid through the middle, helping move the ball down the court.
Lilyana Wrights (Ladies Committee)– had a strong game in defence, turning over lots of ball in defence.
