A relay team from St Jospeh’s Primary School Jerilderie will be chasing down a local record when they compete at the NSW PSSA championships in term three.

The team progressed to the state competition after winning the event at the Mackillop Athletics Championships last week.
The mixed team of Lara Hercus, Milla Rorato, Franky Bryce and Jackson Haas-Laing competed in the 4x100 metre relay at Sydney Olympic Park in the MacKillop small schools relay division. It is specificaly for schools with less than 54 students, but more than 25.
The Jerilderie competitors finished first, beating the seed time set by St Joseph’s Primary School Culcairn by three seconds.
The relay team will now return to Sydney to compete at the NSW state level to compete on Thursday, October 23, competing for the Nigel Bagley Trophy.
A great achievement qualifying for state, the young athletes can also take comfort in the success of locals in their shoes previously.
The students will be in pursuit of the record holders of the event - none other than Jerilderie Public School.
It set the record in 2009 with a time of 54.48 seconds.
Proud parent Eden Hercus said the families of the athletes were particularly proud of their accomplishment.
“This is such an incredible achievement for our regional kids, and we couldn’t be prouder of them.
“The event will be live-streamed and will be available to watch on smart devices or computers.
“We would love for anyone who is able to stream in and cheer them on.”
