Despite the return of Tom Goodwin, Jason Marks, and Cody Howard the boys were unable to overcome the Panthers who got away to a strong start early in the game and were never headed.
The game started with an early Panther goal that was followed shortly afterwards by a Kaelan Bradtke major.
The Roos continued to drive the ball into their forward 50, mainly through the agency of Joe Hansen and Cody Howard who were starting to attack from deep in their defensive 50. But the Roos were unable to score the goals to hurt the opposition.
It was the Panthers who were able to capitalise on turnovers to move the ball from deep in their backline into attacking moves. Their quick ball movement resulted in multiple goals later in the first quarter. At quarter time it was the Panthers leading 5.3 to 1.1.
The second quarter showed a more resolute Roos combination. The players were more willing stand strong in the contests and to take on the game when the ball got in the open.
Cameron Wilson was one of the key players in traffic, as was Damien Wilson who was taking advantage of Tom Goodwin’s ruckwork. As a result, the Roos were able to score the first two goals of the quarter through the agency of Kaelan Bradtke and Jordie Eyers who was busy on his wing.
Another attempted soccer goal hit the post. But the momentum appeared to be turning. Darcy Melksham was also winning possession through the midfield.
The Roos were showing a willingness to outwork their opposition. But the moves into their forward 50 were not scoring goals. At half-time the Roos had made up some ground going in at 4.4 to the Panthers 7.5.
The third quarter continued to be a closely contested affair. The Roos continued to work hard to win the ball and get repeat forward entries, but again the opposition were able to set up effectively and limit the Roos scoring opportunities. At the same time, they created their own scoring opportunities that resulted in goals. At three-quarter time, the Roos trailed by 32 points.
The Roo camp believed that the game was not beyond them, but they knew at the same time that it was going to take an enormous effort to get back into the contest. It was a bloody blow when Lavington scored the first major of the quarter.
Despite the game slipping away, their work-rate remained high as the Roos players continued to hunt the ball and apply pressure around the ground. Cameron Wilson and Jarrod Lane scored last quarter goals, but Lavington were able to maintain their lead with goals of their own.
The Panthers ran out 37-point winners.

Reserves
The Roos reserves team were the surprise packet of the day scoring a narrow 3-point win over the Lavington Panthers. In a never-say-die effort where no more than a few points separated the two teams for most of the game.
Experienced senior players Kade Kuschert and Jamie Seymour were solid all game. Great support from Luke Backhouse, Bailey Minogue and Deakin Clancy kept the ball in the Roos control.
The inclusion of a few thirds boys provided the legs that broke the lines and gave the forwards plenty of opportunities.
Once again, the club song was a source of great celebration in the rooms after the 3-point win.
Final scores: Roos 8.6.54 to the Panthers 7.9.51.
