Runners-up last year in his own tournament, Burke and his team of Darron Fruend and Steve Gann finished one point ahead of Ron Bonat’s team from Oaklands.
In a countback, third place went to Mick Crawford and his team from Barooga.
They snuck in ahead of Peter Russell, who was a late fill-in for Hardy Rennick, and his team of Mary Curtin and Clare Harvey.
The return of warmer weather means pennant season is almost upon us.
The 2022/23 season will see some changes for the Curlews.
Not least is their new pennant shirts, proudly sponsored by the Birdsville Hotel, Woody Motors, Berrigan Auto Electrical, Paul’s Demolition and Kennedy Builders.
The new shirts still feature the club icon - the late ‘Curl’ the bush-stone curlew - on the back.
The Curlews have entered four pennant teams for the 2022/23 Murray playing area season – Divisions one, three and five for Saturday pennant, and Division two for Midweek pennant.
The newly promoted Saturday Division one team will have its work cut out for it this season, but the team is looking forward to the challenge.
Midweek pennant will be played on Tuesdays.
This should make it easier for midweek bowlers looking to support the Saturday teams when numbers may be tight during harvest.
Training for Saturday pennant starts today at 5.30pm, with all bowlers invited to attend.
The Curlews have lined up two practice matches - against Club Mulwala on September 17, and Barooga Sports on October 8 - with both games at home.
The first club event of the season, the Open 100-up, will start on Sunday, September 25.
