It took five rounds for a team to knock off the Steamers at Club Pine Rivers, with the Perth Suns making the breakthrough.
The Steamers then won five of the next eight games, and after defeating Tasmania Tridents 18-4 on Thursday morning, Moama sat atop the standings with a win-loss record of 9-4, a form-line mirrored by Tweed Head Ospreys in second place.
With one game on Thursday night and three more regular-round clashes remaining on Friday, Moama coach Kevin Anderson was pleased with how the reigning BPL champions had played in the hunt for their fourth title.
“I’m really happy with how we’ve gone,” Anderson said.
“We’ve won nine and lost four, and we should qualify for finals barring a disaster.
“Hopefully, we can sneak the top two, which gives us a double chance.
“The three have been really good. (Ryan) Bester’s been a wee bit better than last time, Cass (Millerick) has been steady, and Aron (Sherriff’s) been his usual brilliant self.”
BPL finals start on Friday afternoon at 4pm, with Fox Sports and Kayo coverage.
