Katunga won the toss and elected to bowl first, and although Jerilderie were undermanned, they were still desperate to compile a good score.
Katunga couldn’t have had a better start, with Cameron Arnold being given out LBW with the first ball of the match.
However, Logan Eldridge settled quickly and along with Aaron Dale, the Demons’ total was rapidly increasing.
Dale was bowled out for nine, but Eldridge was determined to keep his side in the game and scored an impressive 46.
Dan Eldridge was the next best with the bat for Jerilderie, making a quick 34 and putting the pressure back on the bowlers.
The Demons were bowled out in the 38th over with a total of 186 runs.
With Katunga at the crease, everyone was hoping the rain would hold off.
As the clouds rolled over, it was Dan Eldridge with the first wicket for Jerilderie and two for the day. Cameron Arnold was relentless with ball in hand, taking three crucial wickets.
Trav Lawton also wanted a piece of the action, picking up three wickets towards the end of the innings.
Just when it seemed like the game was over, with Katunga at 8/87, Bailey Ebborn and Nick Kennedy had their sights on batting out the overs for the first time this year.
They were successful at this, however it was Jerilderie who came away with their first win.
Juniors
It was all smiles and sunshine at Jerilderie’s Monash Park on the weekend as junior cricket kicked off for another season.
The young cricketers hit the pitch full of energy, enthusiasm and plenty of talent on display.
The club was thrilled to see how much the young players have developed their skills in such a short time - from sharp catches to confident batting, the improvement has been impressive.
It appreciates the parents and helpers who pitched in on the day - from setting up gear to scoring, cheering and keeping the players organised. This support makes these games possible and helps create a positive, fun environment for everyone involved.
It was a great start to what’s shaping up to be an exciting season ahead for the Under 11s, with plenty of passion and teamwork already shining through.
A big shout-out to Dominic Gurciullo and Tyson Hercus, who both smashed a couple of fours, and to Harry Rorato and Franky Bryce for some impressive bowling performances. The team now turns their focus to next week’s clash against Barooga, with the first ball set to be bowled at 5pm on Thursday.
