The spring racing carnival in Melbourne is right around the corner, and what better way to prepare for the season than with a day at the Jerilderie Gold Cup next Saturday.
The Gold Cup is a great event of high fashion, a grand day out and, of course, pure thoroughbred racing.
The day will feature six premier races, including the Coleambally Community Bendigo Bank Jerilderie Gold Cup.
Along with an excellent day of racing will be the ever-popular Fashions on the Field, with $3000 worth of prizes across five categories to be won.
This year’s Fashions on the Field categories are: Classic Lady of the Day, Man of the Track, Contemporary Lady of the Track, Couple of the Day and Race-Stopping Millinery.
A panel of Fashions on the Field selectors will be on the lookout for standout entrants in each category – but don’t be shy, self-nominations are also encouraged.
One of the judges has given five pieces of advice to potential Fashions on the Field candidates including to dress for the day, millinery matters, it’s all in the details beyond your outfit, engage with the judges and be creative, be presentable, and have fun.
The 100 Club draw will be held at the Jerilderie Sports Club on Friday night before the races, starting at 7pm.
Tickets can be purchased at the club on the night for those who haven’t already secured theirs.
This year’s 100 Club is packed with fantastic prizes.
First prize is a $2000 cash voucher, and second is a $500 cash voucher.
There will also be 10 draws of $100 cash vouchers, five double passes to the Jerilderie Gold Cup and five double passes to the Berrigan Cup in early October.
Gates to the Jerilderie Racecourse open at 11.30am, with the action expected to run through until 7pm.
A courtesy bus will operate around the Jerilderie township to take racegoers to and from the course for a gold coin donation.
Adding to the atmosphere, a big screen on course will show the AFL grand final live, ensuring footy fans don’t miss a moment of the biggest game of the season.
Entry is $25 for adults, while children 17 and under get in free.
Please note, there is strictly no BYO at the racecourse.
