It all came down to the last over at Jerilderie, with Barooga needing one wicket and the home side needing five runs.
Four of these runs were made, but unfortunately Barooga bowled Jerilderie’s Evan Lawton on the third last ball to seal a draw.
It was a great high scoring day of cricket, with credit extended to the Jerilderie ground staff on the condition of the pitch and surrounds.
Barooga batted first and it was a great opening over for Jerilderie when Evan Lawton rattled Barooga’s top batsman with a perfect fourth ball delivery.
Wickets continued to fall within the first 15 overs with Jerilderie keeping Barooga’s batting contained at 4/45.
A solid partnership slowed the wickets for Jerilderie and upped the run rate for Barooga.
A bowling switch saw Travis Lawton with the ball and quickly taken off after three overs, with the ball ending up in the car park on several occasions.
A combined Eldridge run out finished the 80 run partnership and began another slump for Barooga, but the damage was done, the visitors amassing 196.
Cameron Arnold picked up two wickets in the last three balls finishing with figures of 3/45 and Dan Eldridge 2/18.
Jerilderie came out to bat and quickly lost their captain notching up his lowest score for the year as well as another quick wicket of David Hercus.
A strong partnership was then formed between Travis Lawton (35) and Logan Eldridge (54) carrying the innings past the drinks break.
Jerilderie were keeping in reach of a win before a quick flurry of wickets fell. Enter Cruz Nash. His innings of 39 off 27 carried Jerilderie to the finish line before he fell in the second last over, caught on the boundary trying to smash a six to win.
Jerilderie reached the Barooga total, but lost their final wicket before they could take the lead and victory.
This week Jerilderie take on Berrigan in Jerilderie for their last game of the season.
Under-11s
After a long break over Christmas and the school holidays, local junior cricketers returned to action full of energy and ready to get back into the game.
Taking on Finley on their home turf, it didn’t take long for Jerilderie to find their rhythm, producing a spirited performance in what proved to be a closely fought contest.
Standout efforts came from Dominic Gurciullo and Franky Bryce, who shared the weekly awards after delivering outstanding all-round performances.
Despite a strong showing, the team narrowly missed victory, finishing just six runs short of the target. The result marked a significant improvement since facing Finley in round one, a clear sign of development and determination across the squad.
With confidence building, the team now turns its focus to the final game of the season, travelling to face Tocumwal.
