There was a wholesome atmosphere at Memorial Oval during round seven of the Goulburn Valley League season as teammates came together to celebrate a landmark occasion for all involved against Mooroopna.
The locker room was decorated with commemorative messages and photographs for O’Bree as the star affectionately known as “Megga” prepared to don the famous black and white vest for a 400th time.
Her teammates honoured the A-grade mainstay’s fourth century in club colours in style out on the court too, dispatching the Cats in a close-fought 54-40 victory, with Bec Colwell providing 31 goals and Mia Sudomirski supplying 11.
Megan O’Bree
Euroa stalwart Megan O’Bree has become a legend with the Magpies during a glittering career.
On the day of that 14-point win over the visitors from Mooroopna, the big story was O’Bree’s landmark appearance.
The long-serving ace has tallied three A-grade best-and-fairest awards and two B-grade premierships, securing an enviable legacy off the court as a key leadership figure within the Euroa camp.
Some 355 of her outings with the Magpies have come at A-grade level and she also lent her experience on the sidelines too, coaching Euroa’s under-17s in 2022.
“A true Magpie through and through, Megga's journey with the Euroa Netball Club has spanned three decades, countless teammates, lifelong friendships and generations of players inspired by her dedication to the game,“ the club said in the lead-up.
“From her early days as a 15-year-old to becoming a cornerstone of the senior program, Megan has proudly represented Euroa across every senior grade, always putting the club first wherever she was needed.
“Of her 400 games, an incredible 335 have come at A-grade level, a remarkable achievement built on consistency, resilience and loyalty.”
Bridget Hill
Euroa’s Bridget Hill has become a mainstay at Memorial Oval.
Meanwhile, Bridget Hill has also established herself as part of the furniture at Memorial Oval in recent years.
She made her 200th GVL appearance in the top-of-the-table battle against the Cats, tallying 163 games in A-grade across sterling spells with Euroa and Benalla.
Hill comes from a sporting family, with father Geoff having served as the Saints’ president for several years.
“Bridget has been a tremendous contributor to Goulburn Valley League netball,“ Euroa wrote of the two-time best-and-fairest winner and one-time league MVP runner-up.
“Bridget has built a reputation as a fierce defender with great reading of the play, while also proving equally as effective in goals.
“Her versatility, experience and leadership have made her a valued player at Euroa Football Netball Club and a respected figure across the league.
Ruby Watson
Ruby Watson is making a name for herself in her own right at Euroa.
There was extra cause for celebration at Euroa during what proved to be a memorable weekend as Ruby Watson made her 100th appearance for the club.
Having risen through the junior ranks, often being named best-and-fairest on her journey through the grades, she is fast becoming an established name in her own right for her exploits on the court.
The daughter of former club president and player Scott Watson, Ruby is clearly a chip off the old block as she follows in the footsteps of her revered GVL Hall of Famer dad.
Quickly developing into one of the first names on the Magpies’ team-sheet, she is joined by sister Millie Watson on the club’s books.
“The youngest of the Watson family, she is certainly not overshadowed by the name,” the club said.
“She has worked hard since her junior days often taking away a best-and-fairest or runners-up.
“A force in the midcourt, she is as equally strong in defence as attack often taking multiple intercepts a game.
“Though one of our youngest senior players, you wouldn't know given the depth of her game, showcased in the finals series over the last couple years.”
