The traditional Easter Tournament at Echuca Tennis Club was a rousing success, with more than 400 players taking part in singles, doubles and mixed doubles over the popular three-day event.

Though inclement weather threatened the start of the tournament on Friday, the rain held off and the Crofton St courts bounced back in damp conditions for the singles round robins.
The event has been a fixture in the Echuca community for more than nine decades, and ETC president Chris Potter said he was thrilled with the turnout and feedback this year’s tournament received.
“It was a good turnout, plenty of locals played,” Potter said.
“Feedback was really good, a lot of people didn’t expect to be playing Friday because they thought the courts wouldn’t have held up with the rain.
“A lot of people commended the greens keeper Jade Bennett on the great job he does.
“People just love coming here because it’s a nice relaxed family atmosphere. While the weather wasn’t the best, everyone still had a lot of fun.”

Potter praised Moama Bowling Club for its support of the club, while also recognising the efforts of volunteers throughout the event.
“It was a great effort from the club in terms of volunteers giving up their Easter holidays to help in the canteen and the bar,” Potter said.
On their home courts, several playing members from around the area enjoyed success at the tournament, walking away with some well-earned silverware.

In the under-13 grade, Beatrix Bray and Xavier Stewart starred to take out the girls’ and boys’ categories respectively.
Meanwhile, Leanne More had a big day out in the doubles, teaming up with Roxanne Dicketts to take out the A-grade women’s division before teaming up with son Regan to win the A-grade mixed doubles.

It was another family affair in the B-grade mixed doubles, as Phil and Lucy Higgins combined for victory, rounding out a strong showing from the home club.
