Three set winners for the ladies were Hayley Denny, Miranda Rose, Laura Campbell, Lucy Horne, Hilary Porter and Mary James.
Men’s three set winners were Rob Wettenhall, Ben Chartres, Steve Todd, Jerome Shirley, James Sandford and Henry Pisasale.
All these players start the season with an average 18 games won and nil games lost after round one.
In the first match Peppin Planners won a tight match up against Mitre 10, 16 sets and 143 games to 15 sets 157 games.
There were 13 sets, nearly half, decided by a tie-break game and Mitre 10 managed to lose nine of these sets.
Hayley Denny returned to the comp and straight away won her three sets playing against Pip Metcalfe who has likewise returned to tennis after the netball season. Mitre 10 ladies captain Miranda Rose led her team from the front also winning three sets.
Legal Eagles started their season with a win, 18 sets and 167 games against Deni Newsagency 13 sets 106 games.
Six players for Eagles won their three sets to set up the win – three ladies and three men. Hilary Porter, the Eagles lady captain, after returning from fire fighting duties from around Tallangatta and Corryong led her team winning her three sets.
The Newsagency team was disrupted by the arrival, close to hit-off, of baby Hooke which meant a late withdrawal by father Tom Hooke. As Tom plays as a three this was a disrupter for his team, but congratulations Tom.
Club president Harley Moore said it was a big effort by captain John Henderson, with 104 players registered for the competition - 36 ladies and 68 men.
It was pleasing to see the strong turnout of out of town players coming into Deni after the winter harvest to play tennis and unwind.
Moore said the Autumn Comp was hardly an appropriate name, when matches were played in 37 degree heat.
