“I am very fortunate to be taking on this prestigious role with the club being in such a progressive and successful position, thanks to the management of Ashley and past committees,” Clarke said.
“Naturally, with a change of this nature and new members on the committee, there will be new ideas and suggestions brought to the table.
“However, I have no intention of making any major changes at this stage”.
Haynes took on the role of president in 2010, at a time when the club was in a very precarious position.
The club had experienced a downturn in success on the field, with some rumours circulating that it may be forced to join the Picola League.
After taking on the role of president, Haynes was able to foster a higher standard in the club for both players and members.
Sponsorship was sustained and strengthened with Haynes’ people skills attracting extra high-profile sponsors and support from the community.
During his 12 years in the leadership position, Haynes was there to see the club play in three losing grand finals as well as other finals.
The juniors also proved very successful when it came to the premierships.
“The A Grade premiership in 2012 was a highlight, however the unity shown off-field by the committee over the term was what enabled the club to flourish,” Haynes said.
Perhaps one of the major achievements during his time was the opening of the new club facilities, which took place on December 10, 2014.
Haynes was able to access various grants as well as improving the share farming project that contributed substantially to the fundraising for the new facilities.
This share farming fundraiser continues to grow and contributes extensively to the Community Farming Project.
Haynes says he could not have been so successful without the help of his wife Ruth and their children.
Some high-profile members claim Ruth was continually by his side whenever there was work to be done, especially with catering and netball.
Haynes has always been supportive of sport in the community and the important role it plays, both in good and difficult times.
Sources claim his legacy is that the club is in a far better place now than when he took on the role of president.
“I was fortunate to lead a very committed committee that had very little change in 12 years and am happy to be handing over to Matt and his committee,” Haynes said.
“I wish him well in his new position.
“Finley Football and Netball Club has always been such an inclusive and supportive organisation and new members are always welcome.”
Haynes said Finley now had a club that provided a platform for every participant to be their best.
