The Finley A-graders knew, heading into the weekend, facing the 2022 grand final winning side was going to be a challenge.
The weather turned very poor right before the game which made the court conditions terrible.
The Finley girls kept their heads high the whole game, but unfortunately couldn’t find their rhythm against such a strong A-grade side and struggled to finish their goals.
They had some beautiful passages of play and seemed a lot more settled than the previous week.
We look forward to putting into practice a few new combinations at training and aspire to be as dominant as the Deniliquin A-grade.
The side also welcomed another debutante this week, with Sharni Sykes playing her first A-grade game and taking out an award.
Awards: Finley Country Club’s best on court award - Milly Op’t Hoog; Finley Pilates and Myotherapy award - Sharni Sykes.
C-grade: Finley 30 lt Deni 38.
Our second night match against Deni saw the team at a three goal difference at half time.
Trainings and team plays were starting to come together.
The third and last quarters became tougher due to wind and rain.
The girls rallied around, but Deni started to get away.
There was strong defence throughout the game and amazing shooting from attackers.

C-reserve: Finley 38 def Deni 37.
The girls came out strong and had a good lead for the majority of the match, but some silly mistakes, rushed play and some very bad weather saw Deni come very close.
We were lucky to get away with a one goal win.
The Finley Country Club best on court went to Elyse Price for her strong drives through the midcourt and great feeding into the ring.
The Finley Community Gym Award went to Karen Donkin for her great attack and awesome shooting from anywhere in the ring.
Under-17s: Finley 22 lt Deni 39.
The girls came out firing and was an incredibly close game until half time.
The girls put into play everything they have been learning at training.
However, in the end, Deni were too skilled and accurate in the windy conditions.
The girls kept their heads high and are excited to step into the next round with more determination.

Under-15s: Finley 13 lt Deniliquin 24.
Our second game for the season saw us up against Deni Rams.
The girls knew going in it was going to be a tough match.
The first and second quarters were almost level, with only a couple goals difference between the sides.
Strong pressure from Deni began to be felt in the third, in every position on the court, and some mistakes were made.
This gave Deni an opportunity to pull away on the score board.
With a few positional changes in the fourth Finley were able to pull back together and work well.
In the end though, Deni were too strong and Finley went down by 11.
Awards: Finley RSC best on court - Paige Gray; FFNC Canteen - Olivia Thompson; Thompson’s Star Award - Lilian Baker.
Under-13s: Finley 22 lt Deni 28.
Our girls had a slow start but quickly found their rhythm.
They were matching the intensity of their opponents by the end of the first quarter and continued to work hard throughout the whole game.
A quick few goals at the start of last got us to within three, but Deni steadied.
This saw the Rams take out a great contest.
The positivity both on and off the court from the Cats is making them a pleasure to coach.
Finley RSC Best on Court went to Sophie Urquhart for her great drives and constant work in the midcourt.
Finley Bakery Award went to Teliah Pyle for her great defensive pressure.
Under-11s: Not scored.
The girls had an amazing game in round two.
Everyone worked together amazingly as a team, which resulted in a few amazing goals to reward their hard effort through defence and all the way down to attack.
It’s exciting to see the girls enjoy playing every week!
