Tocumwal proved too strong for Berrigan when the two clashed in the opening round of the Picola and District Netball A grade competition on Good Friday.

The hot weather proved a challenge for players on both teams, with Tocumwal handling the conditions better to win 57-36.
Abby Wilson and Carissa Braybon were too strong in defence for Toc, which created opportunities in the attacking end.
The Saints came out strong to have the lead at the first break, but were unable to continue capitalising on turnovers, in part due to the heat.
However, they came away from a first match with many positives and lots to work on during the week.

In B grade, it was the Saints who came out on top, Berrigan 40 to Tocumwal 17.
With the heat turned right up, the Saints played a fantastic first game with brilliant communication and backing each other up from start to finish.
Bianca Mohr showed great skill in controlling a lot of the game and was well supported by the whole team.
A young, skilful Chloe McQualter brought fresh legs in the second half allowing the Saints to continue their dominance.
Goalies Maddy Loats and Dana Karakai worked beautifully together with mid court stalwarts Nat Ferguson and Ange Permazel showing great agility and fitness. Special mention to quiet achiever Ash Fleming in a brilliant first game.
It was an amazing effort from the Toc side, who went in for their first game together on Friday with no pre-season training.
The Bloods showed so much potential, and will be a team to watch moving forward.

It was a great first game for the Saints, coming away with a well-deserved win. Keia Towler, in defence, worked very well with Grace Veenstra delivering well to the mid court, which was well controlled by Temica Fitzgerald, Ebony Loomes and Annie Cameron.
Bianca Mohr and Sam Henderson then completed the picture with a great goal shooting partnership.
The Toc defenders also put in a brilliant effort and the Bloods’ shooters persevered throughout the match, their first and second efforts paying off.

Berrigan also finished on top in C reserve with 26 to Tocumwal 9.
Berrigan combined well in their first game and came away with a dominant win.
Hannah Jeffcott showed growing confidence as the game progressed shooting impressive goals from all around the ring, well supported by Annie Cameron and Rachel Arnold who were strong in the mid court.
It was a strong debut performance in centre from Vanessa Geeves and reliable skills and strength from Ally Thrumble in defence.
If the Tocumwal girls continue to train hard, the benefits will start to pay off.

Tocumwal showed dominance in the under 17s, defeating Berrigan 33-20.
It was a fantastic first game for both teams.
Toc’s defenders and shooters played extremely well and it was great to see training drills put into practice on the court.
The Saints showed tremendous team spirit on the court for their first time together. With many positive passages of play and strong defensive pressure they should have a great season and will be ones to watch go up the ladder.

It was an 18-18 draw in the under 15s.
Although this game was first up, it was already warm on court and with both teams coming out fast and determined things did not get any cooler.
With Toc up by one at the first break, two at the second and back to one up at the last break, the final quarter was set for some hard-fought contests.
Fantastic play by both teams and a younger Berrigan side along with coach Maddy Loats were extremely proud to get the draw in the end.
Toc’s defenders were tight, the mid courters were driving to the ball and shooters were showing some great teamwork and set plays.

It was an amazing start to the season for the Saints, with all girls putting in big efforts.
With an outstanding display of never giving up, the Berrigan girls earned a great win and showed many skills and great stamina that have paid off from training in the last few weeks.
Tocumwal delivered some impressive plays down the court and there was wonderful teamwork.

In the under 11s, which is not scored, Tocumwal had an awesome debut game.
The side worked together bringing the ball down the court to the shooters, and using the new skills they have been learning at training.
The Berrigan girls were also finally able to put their skills to use after training very enthusiastically the last few weeks, working extremely well as a team and supporting each other with smiles on their faces.
