The seniors made the trip to Jerilderie on Saturday and could not have asked for better conditions.
The sun was shining, the ground was in terrific condition, and everything was set for a great contest.
Unfortunately, the preparation was not ideal, with four players withdrawing on Friday night.
This forced the coaching staff to reshuffle the side and call on several reserve players at the last minute, creating some uncertainty around the original game plan.
Jerilderie came out firing and kicked the opening couple of goals, but the Bears responded well, working their way back into the contest and edging ahead by three points at quarter time.
From there, it was a genuine arm wrestle.
Both sides applied enormous physical pressure, going body-on-body and refusing to let the other gain any momentum.
The game remained tight throughout, with Jerilderie taking a slender two-point lead into the main break.
One of the highlights for Tungamah was the performance of Tyson Scoble.
His speed, agility and ability to burst from congestion and gain valuable metres was outstanding.
Tyson provided plenty of energy around the ground and finished with four goals in an impressive display.
Nick Meggarity also stood tall after being called up from the reserves at the last minute.
Taking on the main ruck duties, Nick competed strongly all day and never looked out of place at senior level.
Jye Holcombe worked tirelessly throughout the contest and wore his heart on his sleeve against his former club.
His determination and effort never wavered as he looked to help drive the side over the line.
Jacob Adkins once again delivered an outstanding performance up forward.
His ability to read the ball off packs and find the goals from every angle continues to be a major weapon for the Bears.
Unfortunately, a couple of undisciplined acts in the final quarter proved costly, resulting in two goals to Jerilderie and making the task extremely difficult in the closing stages.
Despite fighting hard until the final siren, the boys were unable to bridge the gap.
While it was not the result the side was chasing, there were plenty of positives to take away.
With several players expected to return next week, the group will be looking to bounce back strongly and get back on the winners list.
Reserves
Tungamah 14.10 - 94 def Jerilderie 3.2 - 20
After last week’s crime against football, the Lunch Time Legends were determined to produce something a little more watchable.
Fresh off their holiday, the coaches worked through every contact they had accumulated over the past 20 years.
Surprisingly, a few answered. Even more surprisingly, some could still play.
Old favourites reappeared, new talent arrived, and a few current players may have realised job security is not that secure.
With every senior ruckman either injured, unavailable or successfully avoiding responsibility, Ned reached down and pinched the big man, leaving the Ressies scrambling for reinforcements.
Enter Hendo for his first game of the year. Some things change. Hendo does not.
Within minutes he had reminded everyone why he had been allowed to retire.
He complained he was not playing deep forward enough, before eventually getting his wish and immediately introducing the footy to the goal post. Consistency is important.
JJ was at his damaging best. At one stage he took off down the wing like a bloke who had just heard last drinks was being called. Four bounces later, sadly, he eventually ran out of paddock and had his kick smothered. If only the poor bloke had a bit more space and time.
What remains of Waity returned for his first game of the season and looked a million bucks. He officially kicked four, unofficially five.
Ada Connell continues to campaign aggressively for the title of greatest centre half-forward in Tungamah history.
Tom Wren may want to keep one eye on the record books and the other on Ada’s growing ego.
Among the fresh faces was the superior Kelly brother, Pat.
The youngster slotted two goals and spent the afternoon demonstrating to his older sibling how the game has changed since his VHS tape highlight reel.
Gambi pulled on the fluorescent pink runner’s shirt this week and immediately became the most visible man in Jerilderie.
The self-proclaimed brisk walker and elite talker reckons he turned more heads in pink than Margot Robbie.
Nobody has yet found the courage to tell him otherwise.
The football was significantly better than last week, which admittedly was not a particularly high bar.
More importantly, a few blokes currently enjoying holidays might want to start checking return flights.
Based on this performance, there may not be many seats left when they get back.
It was a solid win, with plenty of contributors, and for the first time in a fortnight the timekeeper was not best on ground.

Tungamah travelled to Jerilderie early on the weekend and, after breaking through the fog, was presented with a great surface and fantastic playing conditions.
The boys started well, continuously attacking the goal face, but they were struggling to get the ball through the big sticks, sometimes being too unselfish.
It was more of the same in the next three quarters, with Tungamah dominating play, although inaccurate kicking cost the side a bigger win.
Kai Jones was sent to full-forward and put his hand up to stay there with a dominant display in the air and on the ground, finishing with five goals.
His brother Julian must have had the opposition seeing double, as he dominated at centre half-forward to finish with three goals.
Ryder Kelly was everywhere through the middle, while Cooper Beggs and Desi Doyle hardly let anything through the half-back line.
Desi’s run, carry and long kicking was a highlight.
Darcy Cummins was at his tenacious best, locking the ball forward and creating scores.
A great team performance saw the boys run out winners.
Goals: K. Jones 5, J. Jones 3, R. Kelly, C. Jarjoura.

Every player contributed to the intensity, creating turnovers and converting opportunities to build an early advantage.
A highlight of the match was the A Grade debut of Billie-Jo Buerckner in the second quarter.
Billie-Jo settled into the Bears’ defence seamlessly and was joined on the court by her sister Elli in the third quarter, making it a special day for the Buerckner family.
It was a true team performance, with players showcasing their versatility by taking on a variety of roles throughout the game.
The willingness of everyone to adapt and play wherever needed was a key factor in the Bears’ success.
Chloe Lawless made an appearance in defence during the final quarter, demonstrating the depth and flexibility within the side.

The intensity around the court created plenty of turnover opportunities, while the attacking end capitalised on every chance.
The second quarter saw Tungamah continue to build momentum.
Backing up their strong opening term, the Bears maintained their defensive pressure and consistent movement of the ball through the court, extending the margin to 23 goals at the long break.

Another week brought another away game, and the girls were ready for the challenge.
The first quarter saw a few different positional combinations trialled as both teams settled into an evenly contested game.
Once Tungamah found its rhythm, the team was able to build momentum and take a handy five-goal lead into the first break.
Madi S was outstanding from the opening whistle, bringing relentless pressure and attacking every contest with determination.
Her ability to disrupt Jerilderie’s flow created numerous turnovers, which Tungamah was able to convert on the scoreboard.
Despite Tungamah’s strong start, Jerilderie refused to go away and continued to apply pressure throughout the match.
A few positional changes over the middle two quarters proved valuable as Tungamah gradually began to break Jerilderie’s hold on the contest.
Down the attacking end, Madi K and Claudia formed an exciting new combination.
Claudia’s strong ball-side drives through the court created a reliable pathway into Madi K, with the pair linking beautifully to keep the scoreboard ticking over.
After a hard-fought four quarters, the girls were able to hold their composure and come away with a well-earned five-goal victory.
Award winners: Players Player and Rich Glen - Madi Scott; Jaycees - Madi Kelly; BFT - Claudia Cruickshank.

The team was happy to see the sun out after a foggy trip to Jerilderie.
Lyla ran all day to provide options in attack and great pressure in defence.
With fewer rotations available this week, she showed her endurance across all four quarters.
Sienna showed great versatility, swinging from WD to WA with ease.
She gave great options with strong drives in transition down the court and put lots of pressure on defensively.
Torah caught the eye of the opposition coach and, with fancy footwork, got lots of tips and taps and gained possession back in defence.
With a couple of players missing for the game, the team managed rotations with some Under 13 players in Taylah, Annabelle and Milli.
The team thanks them for helping out for the game.
Tungamah led all game, but across the court things were a little bit flat at times.
The team finished strongly, however, with a 12-goal last quarter to take an 11-goal win.
The team is looking forward to a home game next week against Deni after two weeks on the road.
