It means that many young sportspeople will benefit in their pursuit of higher achievements with assistance by the Godfathers relating to travel and/or accommodation, uniform and other expenses.
Exactly 100 golfers took to Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort’s Lake Course in beautiful high 20 degrees temperature weather. Some of the golf was even hotter, particularly by overall men’s winner, C Grader off 19 handicap Baxter Donovan with 43 stableford points and women’s winner, A grader off 20 Anna Castles recording 40 points.
“Godfathers has been operating for fifty years,” club president Laurie Bridgeman told players and supporters.
“We have been supporting that organisation since the last 1970s. It’s one of the true charities that are magnificent and the community thankful for. We are proud to be supporting the Godfathers organisation. Thank you to everyone involved.”
It gave the president much pleasure in presenting a $4,000 cheque to Godfathers President Graham Wilson.
Mr Wilson expressed his sincere appreciation for the “excellent total” of $4,000. “This event is our biggest fundraiser for the year,” he said.
“Thank you to my team. They do a great job year in year out. Thank you to our sponsors, you are really appreciated.”
A total of 28 women and 72 men played last Sunday. Some individual brilliance took place. Brendan Hennessy hit what he thought was a bit off line, to the left side of the second, Par 3 green. But was it planned by the five-handicapper? The six-iron tee shot ball bounced right off the little mound and went into the hole – his first 44 years of golfing.
Greg Moore drove the Par 4, eighth hole over the lake to one-foot off the back of the green and sunk a long putt for eagle. Nickolas Conduit eagled the fifth, Par 5 hole with just three strokes.
The Godfathers President read out the list of event sponsors then appealed to anyone wanting to be a member of the Godfathers to make their feelings known.
“We could do with a couple more Godfathers, or, for the first time, some Godmothers,” Mr Wilson said.
