Berrigan’s Ruby Russell was a clear-cut winner of the Under 17s Picola & District League Netball Most Valuable Player award on Wednesday night.The Finley-based netballer was never in doubt of winning, amassing 15 votes from her six games.Ruby polled in all six games for the season, including four three-vote best on court performances.It was a much closer count to declare the runner-up with Berrigan’s Lily Sharp and Deni Rovers’ Edwina Barclay sharing second place with 10 votes each.The Deni Rovers dominated the rest of the awards presented on the evening.The vote count, which was held in an online format, saw four of the five MVP awards on offer go to the Roos, with footy players Raymond Murphy (thirds) and Cameron Wills (fourths), and netballers Kate Westcott (Under 15s) and Hazel Glowrey (U13s) finishing on top.

The thirds footy count went down to the wire, with a close battle between Murphy and Deniliquin-based Berrigan player Cooper Willoughby.Heading into the final round, Murphy was leading on 11 votes, with Willoughby his closest rival on 9.The Rovers played against the Saints in the final round.Willoughby polled three votes to put himself in the lead on 12, before it was announced that Murphy managed two votes to edge himself back in front to claim the top honour on 13 votes.Murphy polled votes in five out of six games, being named best on ground on three occasions, while Willoughby polled in four games, being named best on ground in all four.The fourths footy count was also a tight one, with four players still in contention heading into the final round.Wills was leading on eight votes heading into the final round, closely followed by teammate Bobby Hall and Deni-based Saint Logan Leiper on seven, and Jerilderie’s Ben Kennedy on six.Kennedy managed two votes in the final game to draw level with Wills, before the votes from the final game were announced.Hall also drew level on eight, earning himself one vote, before Wills was declared best on ground for the third time, earning three votes to be a clear winner on 11 votes.Leiper was unable to earn a vote in the last game, leaving him third behind joint runners-up Hall and Kennedy.In the netball, Kate Westcott earned the MVP win with 10 votes, with three best on court performances securing the award by round five.Rovers teammate Erika Martin and Berrigan’s Kate Purtill finished as joint runners-up on seven votes, while Blighty’s Jess Hanmer was third on six votes.The Under 13s count also had a clear-cut winner with Hazel Glowrey polling 13 votes in the first five rounds to win the MVP.Her efforts included one vote in round one, before earning top votes in the next four games.Her closes rival was Saint Molly Bradley, the Deniliquin based netballer finishing on eight votes.
