Geelong full forward Tom Hawkins has all but sealed his first AFL Coleman Medal with 40 goals for the season.

The Finley product currently sits nine goals ahead of West Coast Josh Kennedy and Port Adelaide Charlie Dixon for the league goalkicking award.

When the Southern Riverina News went to print Hawkins sat on top with 35 votes with Gold Coast co-skipper Jarrod Witts (31 votes) recorded prior to round 17.

However, Witts seems unlikely to have received enough votes to top Hawkins having only produced 13 disposals, eight kicks, five hitouts and three marks in a losing effort against Collingwood on Monday.

The NSW AFL History Society this year launched the award to recognise the best NSW player in the AFL.
