The abrupt closure of the Mokoan Hub and Café has left many in the community shocked and disappointed.
Staff lost their jobs without warning, volunteers were stood down indefinitely, the committee of management resigned, and environmental research and programs have been suspended.
Ms Cleeland said locals had made it clear they were disheartened by the sudden nature of the closure and lack of transparency.
“People are frustrated, and rightly so,” Ms Cleeland said.
“This decision came without warning, without explanation, and without any respect for the people who have poured their time, energy, and passion into this place.
“There’s a real sense of loss, but also a shared determination to ensure Winton Wetlands has a strong and vibrant future.”
The survey invites input from residents, volunteers, researchers, and visitors on what they would like to see at the wetlands, including ideas for land use, tourism, conservation, education or potential private partnerships.
“All feedback will be collated and presented directly to the department and the minister,” Ms Cleeland said.
“This community has no shortage of ideas.
“Whether it’s through better land management, ecotourism or a revitalised café and visitor hub, locals want to help shape the future, and they deserve to be heard.
“This site holds enormous cultural, environmental and tourism value.
“Decisions about its future must involve proper community consultation, not be made behind closed doors. The best results are always community-led.
“I’ll be taking your feedback straight to the minister to ensure our region has a strong voice in what happens next.”
