Last Wednesday evening, just after 5pm, emergency services received a call to attend a car fire just outside Savernake.
Berrigan Rural Fire Service member and Federation Zone Group Captain Greyd’n Davis said a male driver was headed south toward Mulwala when he smelled smoke.
On inspection, he lifted the bonnet and flames erupted.
Three fire trucks and crew attended, including two from Savernake and one from Mulwala.
The driver suffered no injuries, but the car was significantly damaged. The cause of the fire is unknown.
At 4pm Saturday, firefighters were again dispatched to Savernake after reports of a grass fires on Boat Rock Rd, near the rail level crossing intersection.
Several small fires started on the verge, with two crews from Savernake getting them extinguished within an hour of arriving. The cause is still being investigated.
