Ben Nash (45) and Greg Lawton (46) were both called up in to the seniors side to make up numbers, against their former team no less, and so were their sons — Justin (17) and Travis (15) Lawton and Zander (17) and Cruz (15).
Not only was it a milestone moment for each individual family, the families are lifelong friends and now have an extra connection.
They’ve all been playing the game ‘‘since they could kick a footy’’.
‘‘From Auskick to under-17’s,’’ Mr Lawton said.
‘‘I enjoyed playing with the kids; the banter and the enthusiasm.
‘‘It’s a lot different to when I started, but it’s great to see.’’
Both Mr Lawton and Mr Nash once suited up in the red for Blighty, but more recently have played closer to home.
‘‘Yeah it was a bit ironic really (to come back in to the seniors when they were playing Blighty), and we (Jerilderie)won by a fair bit,’’ Mr Lawton said.
‘‘Ben and I were just happy to get a kick in really.
‘‘The kids got more out of it obviously, but I was just grateful to the club and our coach (Chris Marshall) for giving us that opportunity to all play together.’’
