Safe burning
Landholders are being reminded that rules still apply to agricultural burns, even outside the Bush Fire Danger Period, which ended in March.
You must first check that weather conditions are suitable for burning by using the weather forecast tool on the Bureau of Meteorology Website - http://www.bom.gov.au - and the MetEye link.
The BoM's 'mixing height' information is used by fire authorities when determining appropriate conditions for hazard reduction burns, and is an excellent tool for farmers when planning for stubble burning.
To find mixing height information:
• click on the 'Wind Forecasts' tab, on the left of the screen
• select the button for 'mixing heights'
• use the zoom function to find your location on the map
• use the arrow at the top-left side of the map to see the forecast for mixing height over coming days.
Dark orange and red colours are the indicators of the best conditions for burning.
Also, don't forget to download the stubble burning app, https://www.rga.org.au/stubble-burning-app.
And remember, you are legally obliged to notify your neighbours and the NSW RFS at least 24 hours before you light up. Go to https://nswrfsprod.service-now.com/guardian_csp for full details.
