Despite worries the races would be impacted due to fuel costs and concerns, there were still a steady stream of visitors to the track on Saturday for the six country races headlined by the Joe Cahill Transport Tocumwal Gold Cup race.
Tocumwal Race Club secretary Brent Bonat said with favourable conditions for racing - and trackside entertainment - it was a great day.
“There was a good crowd. It was probably about similar to last year, as expected with around 1500 people.
“It was a good day out, the weather was great and everyone had a good time.”
Everyone in attendance was treated to high-quality country autumn racing.
The atmosphere at the track was jovial, with racegoers keen to make the most of the refreshments on offer as well as the Fashions on the Fields.
The race day also made the most of the many people visiting Tocumwal for Easter.
This was demonstrated with a mixture of visitors and locals adjudged as winners of the Fashions on The Fields sponsored by Eaglei Machinery in the four categories Lady of the Day, Gent of the Day, Tiny Tots and Young Track Stars.
Tocumwal locals Marie Farrell and Geoff Edwards took out Lady of the Day and Gent of the Day, respectively, for their stunning outfit and headwear combinations.
Tilly Chappell from Tocumwal was declared the Young Track Star in the girls' category, while Braxon Cameron from Albury claimed the boys’ Young Track Star title.
In the Tiny Tots, Angel Meyer from Berrigan was the winner in the girls category and Harvey Mallison from Kilsyth, Victoria won the boys’ section.
