The program teaches essential water safety and lifesaving skills and was held at Thompsons Beach.
The children, aged 5 to 13 years old, listened attentively as the SES crew talked about the different things that the NSW SES do as volunteers.
The Bush Nippers program is a collaboration between Life Saving Victoria, Moira Shire Council and Barooga Aquatic & Recreation Centre to bring awareness to enjoy our waterways more safely.
According to the 2024–25 Life Saving Victoria Drowning Report, there were five fatal and 48 non-fatal drowning incidents involving children aged 0-14 years, making these programs an important educational tool on water safety.
Tocumwal SES is always on the hunt for volunteers to join the team.
Visit www.ses.nsw.gov.au/volunteer to apply, or for more information.
You can also head along to a Tocumwal SES training session, held fortnightly at the Jerilderie St station, at 7pm Monday nights or Cobram on alternate weeks.
Volunteers are provided with nationally recognised training and given a great opportunity to give back to our community.
