It was in the mid to late 1990s when land here in Tocumwal, on the east side of Hannah St, was opened for new housing.
Many of the new residents were new to the area, and it wasn’t long before they found fault in the aerodrome; mainly noise.
They made representations and wrote letters to the council, letters to the editor to the SRN and there was general disharmony by some.
Fortunately, only a few, however it was disruptive and divisive.
Application for development has now been granted for an even closer parcel of land to the aerodrome.
For about 300 closely settled houses, I understand.
I believe not one of the current councillors were residents in the shire at the time, although I stand to be corrected.
Do they know what they have just done? The two local councillors did vote against it, I read, but were out voted.
Again, income generation for the shire seems to have prevailed over common sense.
In addition, there are other infrastructure issues not yet addressed.
Yours etc.
