So many were purchasing envelopes at the eleventh hour last week, the Rotary Club of Deniliquin extended its deadline to close today.
Until this week, My Shop was the only drop off point, and business owner and Rotarian Denise Phillips (pictured) said she was inundated.
“It’s been fabulous; a massive response,” Mrs Phillips said.
“So many people were printing photos to go into the capsule we understand Harvey Norman ran out of photo paper last week.
“And the stories I have been hearing from people putting an envelope in ... I’ve been laughing and crying for weeks.
“So many have decided to put something in because they were left an envelope in the last time capsule.”
Rotarians have started to pack the time capsule with the new envelopes this week, ready for the June 14 burial.
After discussions with Edward River Council, it will be buried in Gorman Park near the Edward River Library (at the corner of Napier and Whitelock Sts).
The previous capsule was in the Deniliquin Island Sanctuary, which is no longer as accessible as it was in 2000.
Community members are welcome to come along for the burial on June 14, scheduled for noon. Rotary will host a barbecue.
