Corey Williams, 15, developed a passion for all things music early on.
Playing piano, drums, bass and guitar, Corey said his interest was innate and only growing.
During Seymour FM’s Open Day on Sunday, June 29, Corey, sporting a new guitar he said was technically a present for his 16th in December, but that he couldn’t wait to get his hands on, took to the radio waves.
“It was really fun, I can see myself doing more stuff like that,” Corey said.
“It was really, really fun, and it was a great opportunity.”
As an up-and-coming artist, Corey doesn’t remember the first time he performed, but has played at events such as the Kilmore Busking Competition, where he received the People’s Choice Award.
Corey also plays roles in two bands, one as a drummer for his school band, at the Northern College of the Arts & Technology (NCAT) in Preston, and another as a pianist and guitarist with a friend in his music class.
While he loves everything about music, he said one of his favourite aspects was “playing for people.”
Blues and rock are genres which inspire Corey, with artists such as Stevie Ray Vaughan, Gary Moore and Meat Loaf motivating his future career.
Seymour FM president Damian Sleep had only good things to say about Corey after his visit to the station.
“We had Corey the guitarist there, and he rang me up and said, ‘dad said that I can come up and play guitar,’ and I thought, ‘oh yeah, he’ll come up with a little acoustic guitar,’” Mr Sleep said.
“But, he came up with a whole electric guitar, and he plugged it in and off he went for a good 30 minutes.
“Oh, he was fantastic.”
It’s only up from here for Corey now, who will probably have to wait until after his birthday to play his electric guitar again.
