Two local youngsters who are Swiss and Australian citizens helped some of the Southern Riverina’s residents celebrate Swiss National Day on Tuesday last week.

Tocumwal Sacred Heart School students Tobias and Adélise Flury visited a local aged care home to discuss all things Swiss with the residents.
Born in Switzerland, they have only been residing in Tocumwal since October 2022.
They were very excited to share such a special day for them and share their love of their home country.
Tobias had put a lot of work into his presentation, which detailed some history of how Switzerland was founded and how many languages the residents of such a small country speaks, including its 26 cantons (states).
Tobias also explained everyday life in Switzerland and why their cows have bells.
His presentation included personal photographs of the alps, lakesand Swiss food.
He also shared videos so the residents could hear what the alpine pastures sound like with so many cow bells.
He also explained the magical feeling of every year in September, when approximately 380,000 cows who have been happily grazing on mountainside pastures in the alps during summer, come back down to the valleys.
It is a procession called the Désalp where the cows wear huge flower crowns, bells and the villages celebrate their return for the winter.
Tobias also got to share his presentation with his fellow students at Sacred Heart School.
